Really I think open sourcing the Flash Player itself (maybe a couple of years ago) (w||c)ould have been more conducive to keeping the entire platform alive and healthy. If the Apple elite were able to get their hands on the source code I don’t doubt they could have fixed some of the inefficiencies themselves (though it may have not been in Apple’s best interest since Flash on mobile was a good selling point for Android devices, I don’t doubt that Apple’s development savvy users would have done it anyhow). Now it seems it’s too late for this to have an impact.

Hopefully Adobe/the community will create tools and frameworks that allow developers to keep using their AS3 skills albeit AS3′s runtime is out of gas. Ironically, fueled by some some frustration with FP’s RESTful support, I alluded to AS3′s superiority to the Flash Player a month ago in a blog post:

Anyway, time will tell.

The coming months should be telling with regard to the future viability of doing anything of substance with the platform, especially in the enterprise. 360Flex should be an interesting event! :)

Just don’t stop writing great software because of the change in direction of one tech company.”

Languages are languages. I’ve yet to have seen a technology stack as robust AND elegant as Flex (plus anything). Love it.

That’s not to say Flex isn’t still a great tool for these problems, it’s just that it hasn’t made the progress it could have in terms of an engineering tool.”

If Adobe do that to Flex, I think we can’t expect that they will make great HTML5 Builder (from engineering perspective), LOL.
